City to Repeal Parkallen Community Development Plan - We Need to Hear From You!

We need to hear from you

The City of Edmonton is proposing to repeal the Parkallen Community Development Plan (2013).

It took seven years and countless volunteer hours to create. Now the City says it wants to repeal our Community Development Plan, along with 76 others, in a sweeping move that literally wipes out years of thoughtful effort and planning by people like you.

This would leave Parkallen with no plan at all until the City’s District plans are released.

This is not good for Parkallen.

The Parkallen Community Development Plan was created by the community and it has served us well.

The City of Edmonton has had 3 years to consult with communities and update their plans.  They chose, instead, to consult with developers. This proposal mitigates risk for the City and developers saving them time and money and increasing their potential scope and economic outcome. There has been no balanced, transparent or fair engagement process. Most problematic, this proposal does not ensure the mitigation of risks communities face during infill redevelopment.

The Parkallen Plan states:

"People have an inherent right to participate in those decision-making processes that affect them. Public participation is the cornerstone of democracy creating, among other things, a more responsive and responsible government. It enhances the overall quality of political decisions; and, in circumstances where there are conflicting interests, it may have the added benefit of facilitating resolution through compromise.“
